Do you want to be a Warrior in a group?
To start off I will go into some keyboard/playstyle concepts that work for me. Since, as a Warrior, one of your jobs will probably be that of "Pulling" I think it best that your movement keys be close to your macro keys. I prefer using ALT + (#) for my macros instead of the CTRL + (#). I usually reserve the CTRL ones for non-combat related functions.
My setup is as follows:
-Movement-
______________________________
KEY ACTION
==============================
F Forward
V Backward
A Left
S Right
These keys place your hand at a natural angle on the keyboard over on the left hand side so it is not cramped on the direction arrows. It also provides easier access to ALT + (#) combinations.
Speaking of ALT + (#) combinations, here is a basic run-down on some macros to use:
-Macros/ALT + (#)-
______________________________
KEY ACTION
==============================
ALT+0 /jobability "Mighty Strikes"
ALT+1 /jobability "Provoke"
/p Provoking .
ALT+2 /weaponskill "Burning Blade"
Ok, with that out of the way, let us move on to more Warrior-related things.
First thing you need
to know is that it is YOUR job to protect the party. It is not the Monks job, it is also not the Black Mages job. They are support, everything is support to you doing your job. It may sound a bit self-centered, rest assured though, it is true. At all times you will be the center of attention, and this is how it should be. If your healer gets the attention you might as well be dead, cause you soon will be if he/she dies. The same goes for your other support members. Each member of the group contributes to kill the target at hand equally. Use Provoke wisely, it is your friend.
- Pulling -
Provoke is a very versatile ability. Not only does it do a good job at keeping enemy focus on you, it is also a wonderful "pulling" utility. Basically an ammo-free ranged attack. The benefit of you using Provoke to pull is that when you return to your parties camp you have already grabbed agro so while you are getting your weapon out to attack nobody steals agro from you.
I personally prefer 3rd person while pulling and fighting. You end up with a better, higher-up view of the land. Sometimes the angle can get goofy though, and that is the only real drawback.
Use the TAB key to cycle through the available targets in your FoV (Field of View), it helps to reduce the wasted time caused by mis-clicking on the target and having your mouse end up in the bottom corner over a menu.
- Combat -
When fighting and trying to hold agro watch what your party is doing. If you see a lot of casting keep an eye on the damage you are doing, if you are getting alot of low damage hits or are missing more than normal you might want to use another provoke. With a good sword however, you should do fine at holding agro after the initial provoke, at least until later levels.
Mighty Strikes is a very handy "OMG we're gonna die!" ability. The reuse timer on it is quite long clocking in at two hours - keep in mind though that it is there to USE not SAVE. A lot of people see two hour refresh time and say 'I better save it in case I need it...'.
You can pretty much
forget that idea. It's nice to know you have it, but it is better to use it than to squat on it.
I think that about covers the basics, I will more than likely get around to writing a more advanced and in-depth guide, however this should get some of you started and on the right track to becoming a more efficient warrior.
