Final Fantasy XII

Warning: this could contain spoilers.

If you don't know, this is where I review the game and give you plenty of reasons why not to waste your money on it. Now I know its a bit late to start reviewing this but Final Fantasy XII caught my eye not too long ago and I feel compelled by some higher authority to share my experiences with you. however, I don't feel like writing a novel so I'm going to make this one brief.

Story: 4/10

Immense and hard to follow along with. You start as a young enthusiastic sky pirate wannabe in search of adventure and looking for ways to get back at the Arcadian army who happen to be occupying your home town. During a pillage, you meet up with a real sky pirate and his sexy playboy bunny companion who happen to be looking for the same treasure you just took. In some way or another you're tossed in with a few other characters and end up yelling revolution by days end. All fine and dandy but its just not fun to find yourself running around looking for 10 different stones or swords of legend, each more powerful and evidently more useless then the last, just to end up destroying the one you actually needed.

Graphics: 9/10

Its beautiful. No denying that fact. it is the most eye catching and visually pleasing Final Fantasy game to date. Complete with the various changing environments which have an effect on game play and you have a very enjoyable experience.

Game Play: 3/10

When I first played out the battle system, I was shocked! No more Random Battles!? How could this be? Be it as it was, the battle system was not a welcome change for me.

First we have the magic system. The magic system is horribly incomplete and broken. While you have the option of first, second and third level fire, ice and thunder elemental magics, you are only given first level water magics, NO earth magics, and second and third level air magics. The magic system is mismatched and needs a complete overhaul. Furthermore, You receive some magics like water and holy far to late for it to be of any use. The whole ordeal leaves you confused and irritated.

Gambits are a mixed bag of nuts. Ideally you set up gambits to control how your characters react during battle, without the tedious command smashing. The better your gambits the easier it is to control your characters. Consequently, the better your gambits are, the easier it is to fall asleep during combat.

Side quests are obscure and often times pointless. By the time anything juicy comes up as loot for completed side quests, you would have already bought a vastly superior item. A good example would be Hell Wyrm. It has 8 Million + HP and took me 6 hours to kill it with level 60 characters. What do I get? LP witch are useless to me because by now I've already completed everyones license board, and gil, which by this time, I have 1.3 Billion.

Espers: Espers used to be feared weapons of immense power in Final fantasy 6. Now Espers are ****ing useless.

Sound: 7/10

Not the best Final Fantasy has to offer but I have no real complaints about the music.

Ending Thoughts

I couldn't help but think that this was a great way to show off all the neat things that a PS2 could do graphic wise, but nothing more. there was no real story, It had a broken battle system, It was a terrible game overall. I only hope that if you had plans to grab it, You don't now. it was a complete waste of $20. it really leaves me wondering how it got a perfect 5/5 from X-Play.
