Final Fantasy XI Ballista Guide

I myself am addicted I never miss a match (Unless I have to sleep!) So I decided why not make this of something I know Best. Ballista!

1: What is Ballista?

Ballista is a team based battle where players from all nations can fight for fun and some gil. It's PVP (Player vs. Player) and alot of fun so why not try it out!

2:How do I join?

Well, my friend, you want to join? You need to first get a Ballista License Which I will explain later on in this guide. Next you must talk to Pursuivant in one of these 4 areas:

-Ru'Lude Gardens Up the stairs by the Mog house
-Windurst Waters just a short walk from the mog house
-North Sandoria By the the mog of course!
-Port Bastok behind the wall of the you guessed it Mog house!

The Pursuivant can tell you everything from Match times to what the rules are in the matchs!!! (also for Teleporting to Matchs, that's later on)

3:How do I get my License?

Well that, my friend, all depends on where your Home Country is. You must be Rank 3+ in order to get the quest! You must speak with your PVP Captain! Here's their POS and details:

Invincible Shield - Metalworks - G-8 (Bastok)
Excenmille - North Sandoria - D-9 (San d'Oria)
Mhabi Molkot - Heavens Tower - Clerical Chamber (Windurst)

These Captains will tell you that if you want to get a License you must travel to the other countries to speak with their captains. Know what that means!? Road Trip!!! Go to each country and speak with the NPCs posted above. Then you will need to speak with the leaders of the country: Karst, King Derstin, and Star Sibyl. Return home, speak with your Ballista Captain and your Home Nation's Leader and then you got your self a Shiny new Ballista License!

4: So now what do I do!?

Using Your Black Mage

This is a small guide that I hope well help any other BLM players out there. This is the first guide I have ever written so if it seems a bit chopy at times please bear with me. Now on to the guide.

CONTROLING YOUR AGRO:
A very important thing to learn as a BLM is controling your agro! Rember you have tiny hit points and that robe is just got looks. If a monster gets ahold of you good its over for you. You need to keep a close eye on when a warriors provoke is going to be ready. Most warrior will have a timer posting to group chat so you will have a general idea of when he will be able to save your butt again and keep in mind that the WHM is going to be using alot of the warriors provokes up so try to make him use it on you as little as possible. NEVER Chaincast on a mob in a group unless things look really bad! This simply produces agro that could have been avoided and causes down time for your party afterwards! The bottom line is most of a monsters hate list is controled by damage delt to the monster, if you nuke to hard to often you will find you self hanging from the teeth of something not so plesant!

CHOOSING THE SUB JOB THATS RIGHT FOR YOU:
The most common mistake when picking a subjob for a BLM is to think that White mage is the only choice worth making. You DO NOT want to sub any sort of melee so i will list the 3 main subs and why you would take them.

White Mage:
Making a white mage your sub job will allow you access to a nice new line of spells. It will allow you to heal and cast a nice range of protect spells and late game even allow you to rise. This sub job will give you the second best boost to your MP, a pretty low INT boost, a decent MND boost, and a almost unnoticable hp boost. You will gain Auto Regen later on, a second clean mind, and 2 boosts to your magical defense.

Evaluating the Final Fantasy series

Not many games grab my attention nowadays. With all of the games now feuding over who has the best graphics and who's game looks the most realistic. I can easily pop in an older Final Fantasy game and get carried away for days at a time. What makes Final Fantasy differ from the rest of the games in it's genre, as well as the rest of the games on the market that are non-rpgs, is its intricate and well-woven story.

Each Final Fantasy, aside from X and X-2 and VII and its varying sequals (Dirge of Cerberus, Crisis Core, etc), reveals an entirely different plot and cast of characters with only the games name as a similarity to one another. Settling in to delve into one of the games, you are immediately drawn in by the beautiful, melodic sound ranging from brilliantly generated sound effects to masterpiece quality music. The cast of characters are easily woven into your own personal emotions as you feel, after awhile of playing, that you yourself have become a part of the game.

Final Fantasy is known to being the benchmark for graphics in console gaming. Aside from the graphics though, Final Fantasy has been one of the most successful series' of games on the market today. The can be from a range of things from its music, to catchy characters, intricate, deep storylines with love and betrayal to addictive gameplay.

Final Fantasy started it's roots way back on the Famicom, Japans version of the NES, with Final Fantasy I. Later came Final Fantasy II offering a completely different cast of characters, music, and storyline and drove the story deeper and deeper into betrayal and lust, love and hate. Final Fantasy then jumped to the Super Famicom, Japans version of the SNES in America.

How to Play Final Fantasy and Where to Get it

The Final Fantasy series itself is classified as a console role playing game. The player's goal in most of these games is to progress through a set storyline, overcoming progressively difficult challenges along the way. The only way to do this is through "levelling up", or defeating monsters along the way in order for a player's characters to become stronger.

The first three (I, II (Japan only), III (Japan only)) Final Fantasy games were originally released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), the next three (IV, V (Japan only), VI) for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), the following three for the Sony Playstation (PSX) and the latest installments (X, XI, the upcoming XII) for the Sony Playstation 2 (PS2).

Each of the games takes place in a different world with different storylines, but have become more complex gameplay-wise as time has gone on. The games themselves are very simple to pick up and play and are quite enjoyable, but will require some patience as building up levels can, at times, be a tedious process.

XI is different from the others, as it is an online RPG which is also available for the PC. It requires a monthly fee.

Final Fantasy X can likely be found at any video game store, but the others may require more effort in finding. You should check eBay and other auction sites/online suppliers for original copies of the games. It may also be easier to buy re-releases of the games; two compilations were made for the PSX in North America (Final Fantasy Anthology, featuring V and VI, and Final Fantasy Chronicles, featuring IV and another Square RPG, Chrono Trigger);

As well, two re-releases have been released for the Game Boy Advance (Dawn of Souls, featuring I and II, and Final Fantasy IV Advance) with re-releases of Final Fantasy V and VI upcoming as well. Final Fantasy III will be getting a North American release sometime in the future for the Nintendo DS.
